YouTube Visioning
Exploring long-term human-centered futures for YouTube’s biggest bets
Since January 2016, I've been working at Google as the first designer and prototyper on YouTube's Visioning Team. The team works with product teams across YouTube to identify human-centered product opportunities and help them articulate a clear product vision.
I focus on translating foundational research into actionable and tangible product concepts to inform the long-term strategy for many of YouTube's biggest bets. Due to the future-looking nature of the work (~2 years out), I'm only able to highlight a small handfull of projects.
I work on addressesing open-ended questions and emphasizing longer-term thinking. I use research, prototyping, and rapid ideation methodologies to explore uncharted terrain and better design for new users and new problem spaces.
Versioning and visioning are two complementary forms of innovation. Versioning (left image) utilizes continuous, incremental improvements, while visioning (right image) uses longer-term thinking to make bigger leaps.
The visioning journey can be broken down into six discrete phases:
(1) Activate the team → (2) Immerse yourself in the problem → (3) Frame the opportunity → (4) Explore the possibilities → (5) Define the vision → (6) Inspire action.
